The first two months of the year are almost over. If you had any new year’s resolutions that didn’t work out, don’t worry. Every day is a new day. In this blog I will share seven small changes that can improve your life.

For most of us it is difficult to change. As humans are creatures of habit. For our brains is it easier to repeat our behaviors. If we want to change, it mostly triggers anxiety, uncomfortable feelings and resistance. So we prefer to avoid these feelings.
But if you want to grow or improve your life, change is necessary. Feelings of fear and resistance are part of it. So make it easier for yourself and take small steps. Consistency is key. And be kind to yourself.
I would like to share seven small changes that will improve your life.
#1 Breathe deeply
Become aware of your breath and use it to calm down. By breathing deeply, more oxygen comes into your blood stream, which helps your brain to work better. And you will also feel better.
#2 Take small breaks
We mostly think we are working efficiently by skipping breaks. We want to finish our task first. But taking regular breaks are essential. Micro-breaks can help us to manage our energy. These short breaks can vary from 1 till 10 minutes. Start by giving yourself permission to take breaks.
#3 Drink water
If you don’t drink enough water on a day, it can make you feel tired. If you do office work, make sure you always have a bottle of water on your desk. When you do other work, always bring a bottle of water with you. If you can see the bottle in front of you, it will remind you to drink.
#4 Read something inspiring
Read an inspiring quote, an interesting book or an article. It will give you energy and hope.
#5 Move
Most of us are sitting too long on a day. While we work, while we eat and when we are relaxing on the couch. Make sure you keep moving. Go for a walk, take the stairs, do some jumping jacks or take a stretch break.
#6 Take power naps
If you have the possibility to take a power nap, try it. You can take a nap for 10 till 20 minutes. In Japanese culture, they practice ‘inemuri’. It is accepted to take short naps in public places, at work or in the subway. They see it as a sign of hard work and dedication.
#7 End with gratitude
Make time for gratitude in your evening ritual. Write down three things that you are grateful for. It can be everything, from small to big things. Examples: a nice cup of tea, feeling the sunshine on your skin, falling leaves or a nice song that your heard on the radio that day.
